Chinese Lunar Year of Horse - Cream Cheese Berry Mousse Cake

Today marks the start of the Chinese Lunar Year, the year of Horse.

In China, families thoroughly clean their house in order to sweep away any ill fortune and to make way for good luck. Windows and doors are decorated with delicate red paper cutouts and antithetical couplet to express people’s hope for the New Year.

Fireworks, the lion dance, the dragon dance, and lanterns with riddles are other common traditions in China. Even though we don't have this kind of atmosphere here in the US, we will gather for a big family reunion dinner on New Year’s Eve. We also give out red envelopes to children because we believe the red envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits.

I sincerely wish everyone peace, health, and happiness in the year of horse.

My friend asked me to make a cream cheese mousse cake with all kinds of berries... and here's the finished look.

Remi was so proud as she's wearing daddy's shoes  XD, she called herself "a big girl".
